Lunar Storm
Olde Gutrot's Sumptuously Splendid Sloe Gin
Harvest your sloes (September - October).
Prick each sloe through, or freeze them for 4 days to break the skin.
Take a sterilised standard sized wine bottle and fill it ⅓ full of sloes.
Add 1½ standard wine glasses of sugar.
Fill the bottle with gin.
Store in a cool, dark place for at least 3 months. For the first two weeks, shake daily, thereafter weekly.
Filter into fresh sterilised bottles. Retain the sloes to make sloe port or sloe truffles.
The result will be a sweet, purple liqueur. After the first batch, adjust the amount of sugar to your personal taste.
Vodka can be substituted for gin.
