Drox Graywolf

Drox is a Scourge Captain. The second part of his name derives from the ship of which he has been the long-term master, the Gray Wolf. He has many fighting skills with which he leads and defends his vessel.

Before joining The Scourge, Drox was First Mate aboard another pirate vessel unaffiliated to them. Frustrated by that captain and crew’s lack of ambition, he approached Deathman, Mercurius and Madboots, petitioning to join them. He was told he could – if he proved his mettle. This he proceeded to do in spectacular style.

Following up on the semi-mythical tale about a fighting ship of the Wolves Faction seized by the Tarantulas and sailed into the Underdark, Drox assembled a hand-picked crew of two dozen hardy souls in a couple of ship’s boats, vowing to find this vessel and bring it back to the lands under sun and stars. Through intelligence, luck and guile, Drox found the river into the underworld despite the illusions hiding it. Enduring many perils and battling Drow, huge spiders and nameless other horrors that lurk only in the deepest pits of the Underdark, he and his companions prevailed, found the ship, captured it, and sailed it triumphantly back to the surface of Erdreja.

That ship was the Gray Wolf. The heroism shown not only earned him immediate admittance to The Scourge, but also resulted in his being given the honour of having the name of his vessel appended to his own. The Gray Wolf takes her name from her prominent wolf figurehead and the colour her timbers have taken on over her years at sea, having never been tarred or varnished.

Drox is Oathsworn to the Armourers Guild, and, as a Weaponsmith, can fabricate both non-magical and magical instruments of war. He is fearless, and can never be caused to drop a weapon.

When fighting ambidextrously, Drox wields paired heavy cutlasses with ornately decorated handguards that he has dubbed The Fangs of the Viper. While he can wield large melee weapons, his sword of choice for single-handed combat (mostly at night) is an evil, saw-backed blade named Retribution. He is customarily dressed in a black gambeson with red striped sleeves, with striped pantaloons and a leather breastplate. A scalloped pauldron protects the shoulder and upper part of his right arm and a vambrace his right forearm.

At The Gathering of 1121, Drox became an Awakened human.
